On June 12, Sinosteel Group Corporation Limited (“Sinosteel” for short) and University of Science and Technology Beijing (“USTB” for short) entered into a strategic cooperation framework agreement. Xu Siwei, Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairman of Sinosteel, Liu Andong, General Manager and Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of Sinosteel, and Party Committee Secretary Wu Guilong and President Yang Renshu of USTB attended the signing ceremony. Wang Yunmin, Director of the Scientific and Technological Innovation Committee of Sinosteel and academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Gong Jingsheng, a leader of Sinosteel, Li Hongxia, chief engineer of Sinosteel Holdings, Mao Xinping, Direction of USTB Collaborative Innovation Center of Steel Technology and academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and Wu Aixiang, Vice President of USTB were present or participated in the ceremony via video.
In the discussion before the signing ceremony, Xu Siwei briefly introduced the business structure of Sinosteel and particularly the development of the new material business. He said that USTB has made important contributions to the construction of the country and the development of the steel industry over the years and maintains a profound lasting friendship with Sinosteel. As Sinosteel is concentrating its strengths to pursue innovation development, he hoped that the two parties will continue to increase the strength and depth of collaborative innovation in the new journey of cooperation, promote the implementation of specific cooperation projects or research, set an example of industry-university-research cooperation under school-enterprise partnership, and jointly contribute to the development of the national economy and new material technology.
Wu Guilong said that USTB follows national deployment closely and persists in improving its capabilities in technological innovation and social services. He disclosed that USTB is working to create Xiong’an Research Institute of New Material Industry while expanding its discipline advantages and actively building platforms at home and abroad for training backbone talents for state-owned enterprises. The disciplines studied by USTB fit well with the business sectors of Sinosteel. He said that starting with this agreement, USTB will try to align its scientific research and talent training with the mission to serve the country through industry-education and science-education integration on the basis of friendly partnership with Sinosteel. He said that USTB will strive to broaden the areas of cooperation, adopt innovative cooperation models, and serve the innovation development of enterprises while promoting industry development.
Liu Andong and Yang Renshu signed the agreement on behalf of respective parties. According to the agreement, the two parties will make full use of their advantages and deepen cooperation in scientific research, talent training, discipline construction, and academic exchanges in the fields of advanced basic materials, key strategic materials, and cutting-edge new material technologies.
