On the same day, officials in steel industry and enterprise representatives from China and Japan held active discussion in the Great Wall Sheraton Hotel.Sinosteel president Mr. Huang Tianwen delivered a speech on the reception. He said that Sino-Japanese Steel Official-Civil Talk is an effective communicating mechanism established to promote iron and steel trade development, maintain steel market order and realize benefitial win-win development. Ever since the first talk in April 2001, it has been held eight times. In the former talks, both Chinese and Japanese governments’ steel departments and steel enterprises held extensive, friendly and sincere discussions and exchanged and shared many important market information on steel production operation, steel market discussion and steel trade trend. They also raised good suggestions on cooperation and development, promoting the development of both Chinese and Japanese steel industry. Mr. Huang believes that China and Japan are both big steel countries in the world with each other’s own advantages. After years of development, Japanese steel industry is quite developed with steel enterprises in solid financial strength and advanced technology. While China’s steel industry, although begins developing later, is with rich labor, broad market and strong rear advantages. With the development of the steel industry in our two countries, especially when 80% of the global iron ore raw material resources are monopolized by minor mining magnates, the steel enterprises of both countries are facing common challenges. As the main iron ore resource demanding countries, Chinese and Japanese enterprises have common economic benefit and broad cooperating perspective in promoting the establishment of just and equitable iron ore pricing mechanism and keeping regular market order. Taking into consideration of next year’s demand & supply and the cost that enterprises can afford, China and Japan should make efforts to reduce the iron ore price in 2006, so as to maintain the sustainable development of the world iron ore demanding & supplying industries. Sinosteel would like to participate in Sino-Japanese communication and talk under the guidance of Ministry of Commerce and CISA, to promote economic and trading cooperation in steel industry, to establish stable, active and prosperous steel market in Asia, or even in the world and to promote the global economic prosperity and social development. Many distinguished guests delivered speeches on the reception undertaken by Sinosteel, which won sincere gratitude from both the Chinese side and the Japanese side. The reception was hosted by vice secretary-general of CISA Mr. Qi Xiangdong.
