Vice President Mr. Dong Zhixiong Attending the Fourth ASEAN-China Business Council (ACBC) Meeting

On Oct. 18, the Fourth ASEAN-China Business Council (ACBC) Meeting was held in Nanning with the theme of “Mutual Discussion on Harmonious Development, Further Promotion for Common Richness”. The chairman of CCPIT, head of the Chinese delegation Mr. Wan Jifei and president of ASEAN-Chambers of Commerce and Industry (ASEAN-CCI), head of the ASEAN delegation Mr. Freddy Lam Fong Loi delivered speeches. Nearly 100 chamber and enterprise representatives from China, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam, Laos, Singapore and Brunei attended the meeting. The Nanning Joint Declaration by National Chambers of Commerce and Industry of China and ASEAN countries was discussed and issued at the event. Participants agreed to promote long term, stable and sustainable cooperative relationships, guided by the principles of equality, mutual benefit, enterprise orientation and common development in a voluntary, diversified, constant and deepening cooperating way, according to the declaration.Vice president Mr. Dong Zhixiong attended the meeting and delivered a speech upon invitation. He introduced the developing history and situation of Sinosteel’s business in ASEAN and expressed the wish to actively participate China-ASEAN economic and trade cooperation, consolidate bilateral resource exploration, promote economic and technological communication and provide good and specialized service.

In order to promote economic cooperation, trade as well as investment between China and ASEAN countries, China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) and ASEAN Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI) have signed in 1997 a Memorandum of Understanding on establishing ASEAN-China Business Council. ASEAN-China Business Council is composed of leaders of China Chamber of International Commerce, ASEAN Chamber of Commerce and Industry, National Chambers of Commerce of ASEAN member countries as well as renowned business leaders of each country. Till now members from the Chinese side include: Sinosteel Corporation, CITIC, Haier Group, ZTE Corporation, China National Petroleum Corporation, China Construction Bank, China Electric Power Technology Imp. & Exp. Corp., etc.

The ASEAN-China Business Council was established on November 8, 2001. The first three plenary sessions are: the first held Nov. of 2001 in Jakarta, Indonesia; the second in Dec. 2003 in Kunming, China; the third in June of 2004 in Rangoon, Burma. It is decided that the fifth plenary session will be held in Chiang Mai, Thailand.    

ASEAN-China Business Council aims at promoting ASEAN-China Free Trade Area, communicating governments with enterprises, promoting the co-development of nations’ economies. It plays a very active role in promoting China-ASEAN economic cooperation.
