In order to promote economic cooperation, trade as well as investment between China and ASEAN countries, China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) and ASEAN Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI) have signed in 1997 a Memorandum of Understanding on establishing ASEAN-China Business Council. ASEAN-China Business Council is composed of leaders of China Chamber of International Commerce, ASEAN Chamber of Commerce and Industry, National Chambers of Commerce of ASEAN member countries as well as renowned business leaders of each country. Till now members from the Chinese side include: Sinosteel Corporation, CITIC, Haier Group, ZTE Corporation, China National Petroleum Corporation, China Construction Bank, China Electric Power Technology Imp. & Exp. Corp., etc.
The ASEAN-China Business Council was established on November 8, 2001. The first three plenary sessions are: the first held Nov. of 2001 in Jakarta, Indonesia; the second in Dec. 2003 in Kunming, China; the third in June of 2004 in Rangoon, Burma. It is decided that the fifth plenary session will be held in Chiang Mai, Thailand.
ASEAN-China Business Council aims at promoting ASEAN-China Free Trade Area, communicating governments with enterprises, promoting the co-development of nations’ economies. It plays a very active role in promoting China-ASEAN economic cooperation.
