March 12 - Li Rongting, Deputy General Manager of Sinosteel Group, met with visiting Executive Vice President of Vale Base Metals Deshnee Naidoo and her delegation at Sinosteel headquarters for a cordial exchange.
Li Rongting welcomed the delegation and introduced Sinosteel's new strategic positioning, with emphasis on the company's overseas mineral resource business layout. He noted that through nearly 40 years of international development, Sinosteel has established mineral resource development, processing and utilization operations in Southern Africa and Southeast Asia, forming an overseas resource portfolio focused on chromium and nickel, while promoting integrated operations from resource development to international trade.Under China Baowu's strategic leadership, Sinosteel aims to become a world-class minor metals resource supplier, and build itself into a high-tech enterprise providing minor metal resources and related new material products and services. Li Rongting expressed hope for strengthening mutual trust and win-win cooperation while actively exploring paths to deepen collaboration.
Naidoo thanked Sinosteel for the warm reception and provided an overview of Vale Base Metals' operations and shareholder structure. She explained that since late 2022, Vale has separated its base metals and iron ore businesses, establishing Vale Base Metals as an independently operated company. Currently, the company's main business includes nickel, copper, cobalt, gold and associated metals, with mining and smelting operations primarily in Canada, Brazil and Indonesia, and downstream processing concentrated in Japan and Wales, UK. As the world's second-largest primary nickel producer, the company holds significant advantages in nickel resources. Naidoo expressed hope for exploring broader and deeper cooperation opportunities.
During the talks, both parties discussed potential collaboration opportunities in Indonesia, Australia and other regions. Prior to the meeting, the delegation toured Sinosteel's exhibition hall.
The meeting was also attended by Wei Feng, General Manager of Corporate Affairs for Vale Base Metals Asia Pacific, and Sinosteel Assistant General Managers Fu Ruilong and Xiong Jian.
