Sinosteel Corporation Taking Part in Chinese Enterprises “Go Overseas” Development Results Exhibition

Chinese Enterprises “Go Overseas” Development Results Exhibition is held between April 18 and 22, 2005. Sinosteel chrome ore & ferrochrome projects in South Africa and air separation plant with 10000M3 capacity that has been exported to ICDAS Steel Mill in Turkey are exhibited in the overseas resources developing exhibiting zone.   

The exhibition is held by 24 units together including Ministry of Commerce, Foreign Publicity Office of the Central Government, Foreign Ministry, Ministry of Finance and SASAC, etc. There are 170 overseas projects exhibition from 106 enterprises.

 

In line with the way of “Go to the World for Co-Development”, the exhibition demonstrates the development and achievements after the launch of “Go Overseas” Strategy in the 20 years’ of Reform and Open-Up, and the achievements in mutual benefit and co-development with other countries and regions in the world, fully representing the peaceful developing new thought initiated by China.

 

1. The joint venture between Sinosteel and South Africa Limpopo Province Development Corporation includes a chrome mine with an output of 400,000 tons of chrome ore and a smelting plant producing 120,000 tons of ferrochrome each year. This mine has chrome reserve of 45 million tons, which is four to five times as much as the total chrome reserve in China. There are two smelting furnaces that produce foundry chrome sand, metallurgical grade chrome sand, metallurgical chrome lump and good-quality charging high carbon ferrochrome, which are sold to Japan, ROK, Europe, USA and China. It is expected that, by the end of 2008, two more electric furnaces will be built, with an annual production capacity of 500,000 tons of ferrochrome ore. Then, ASA will be one of the major ferrochrome ore producing companies in the world.

 

2. Sinosteel ICDAS Steel Mill Project

Located in the west of Turkey, ICDAS Steel Mill is the third largest steel mill in Turkey with a production capacity of 3 millions of steel, mainly the steel bars and wire rod.
