The Sinosteel Scientific & Technological Project Awarded the National Second Progressive Prize of Science & Technology

In the 2004 National Scientific & Technological Prize Awarding Conference held the other day, the “Aluminium Electrolytic Cell SiN-SiC Product” Project of Sinosteel Luoyang Institute of Refractories Research was awarded the National Second Progressive Prize of Science & Technology. This is the highest honour won in refractory industry in recent years. It shows that the scientific & technological innovating capability of Sinosteel LIRR is being improved; the institute plays a very important role in promoting the scientific & technological progress in refractory industry and the development of the industry.

 

The aluminium electrolytic cell SiN-SiC product is special functional material used in non-ferrous smelting with the features of high-intensity, high conductivity and good corrosion-resistance. Worldwide acknowledged in the material industry, it is also the upgraded and updated product of the original side carbon block in the large preroasting aluminium electrolytic cell. The physical characteristic indexes reach or exceed the advanced level of products of the same type in the world. The product is the first Chinese product that had been certified in the European Aluminium Industry Laboratory and been successfully applied in the large preroasting aluminium electrolytic cells of the internationally renowned companies as Alcan (Canada), Alcoa (USA), Hydro (Norway), Dubal (The United Arab Emirates), Icelandic Aluminium and Comalco (Australia). And it has now gained 40% of the market share of international electrolytic aluminium industry.
