Iron and steel scrap is a general designation of the ferrous scrap which is recovered from useless metal. It is a very important material for steelmaking. The global consumption of iron and steel scrap reaches 400 Mt in 2003. The main resource of scrap is distributed in the areas with developed iron and steel industry, such as North America, EFTA, Russian, East AsiaJapan, Korean, Taiwan and Australia. The scrap resources in China is becoming abundant as steel industry develops.
