On September 3, the opening ceremony of 2018 Beijing Summit of Forum on China-Africa Cooperation was held in Great Hall of the People, and President Xi Jinping of China attended the opening ceremony and made a keynote speech. President and Secretary of the Party Committee of Sinosteel Group, Xu Siwei, was invited to attend the opening ceremony of Beijing Summit of Forum on China-Africa Cooperation and the opening ceremony of High-level Dialogue between the Chinese and African Leaders and the Business Representatives & the 6th China-Africa Entrepreneurs’ Conference, and he listened to the important keynote speech made by President Xi Jinping and participated in the seminar at China-Africa Entrepreneurs’ Conference held on September 4.
Three issues were set for this High-level Dialogue between the Chinese and African Leaders and the Business Representatives & the 6th China-Africa Entrepreneurs’ Conference, and Xu Siwei participated in the seminar of “promote the industrial cooperation, help the win-win development”. Xu Siwei introduced the conditions of investment development of Sinosteel Group in Africa in his speech, and he expressed that Sinosteel, as one of China’s earliest state-owned enterprises “going global” to be engaged in the economic and technical cooperation, based the overall situation of the China-Africa relations, and it was the first to enter Africa in the 1990s, constructed 3 chrome ore resource development and processing projects in South Africa and Zimbabwe and vigorously promoted the cooperative development of iron ore resource projects in the Midwest Africa such as Gabon and Cameroon in the process of positively responding to “The Belt and Road” Initiative to make contributions to promoting the development of China’s steel industry and prosper the local economy.
By reviewing the course of Sino-African cooperation, Xu Siwei shared the experience and understandings of Sinosteel’s cooperation with African enterprises: first, insisted on the way of industrialization and gradually developed the new cooperation mode combined with “resource + trade” and “resource + industry”; second, insisted on the way of local operation, gave play to the joint venture partners’ comparative advantages to the maximum degree and promoted the development of the supporting industries and service industries; third, insisted in the way of “green development”, adopted the world’s advanced processing equipment to reduce the carbon emission and increase the energy recycling and strove to realize the “zero harm” of industrial development to the natural environment; fourth, insisted on the way of harmonious coexistence, and remembered to feed back the local society and perform the social responsibilities while improving the operation and development.
For the business development and investment plan in Africa in the future, Xu Siwei expressed that Sinosteel would take this China-Africa Entrepreneurs’ Conference as an opportunity to give full play to the comparative advantages in terms of mineral resources and EPC, further increase the investment and development strength in Africa, join hands to create the mutually-beneficial and win-win way of high quality development and make contributions to constructing the closer China-Africa Community of Shared Future.
Currently, Forum on China-Africa Cooperation has a total of 55 members including China, 53 African countries establishing diplomatic relations with China and African Union Commission. China-Africa Entrepreneurs’ Conference was an important supporting activity of 2018 Beijing Summit of Forum on China-Africa Cooperation, provided a platform for the Chinese and African enterprises to enhance understanding and strengthen the cooperation and was highly concerned by all the circles in China and Africa, and 2,088 representatives from the leading enterprises in the industrial and commercial circles of China and Africa attended the meeting.
