On the evening of 15 and 16, West Australian Ballet (WAB) showed its outstanding ballet flair by presenting La Boheme—one of the three classics of the famous Italian play writer Puccini in Beijing Tianqiao Theatre. The drama is historically rearranged and rendered in the passionate and dynamic art form of ballet by Simon Dow—WAB’s internationally acclaimed artistic director and choreographer. As a perfect combination of classic drama and modern ballet, it is a world first to present this prolonged classic work in the artistic form of ballet. Sinosteel is the Chinese sponsor for WAB’s whole trip in China. After the first show in Beijing dated Oct. 15 and 16, the ballet will be shown in Nanjing, Hangzhou and Shanghai.
On the evening of Oct. 16, Australian Major General Mr. Michael Jeffery, Australian Ambassador His Excellency Dr. Alan William Thomas, Chinese Ambassador to Australia Ms. Fu Ying, Sinosteel Vice President Mr. He Lin, Vice President Mr. Dong Zhixiong, Vice President Mr. Jiang Hong and nearly a thousand audience form all circles watched the ballet. After the show, the Australian Major General Mr. Michael Jeffery delivered a speech after the performance; he congratulated on the successful visiting performance of WAB and expressed his gratitude to Sinosteel for the sponsorship and the promotion of Sino-Australian cultural exchange. The Major General also talked with Sinosteel vice president Mr. Dong Zhixiong happily on the reception.
West Australian Ballet is one of the oldest professional ballets in Australia, receiving international acclaim for the combination of traditional and neoclassicist ballet and their classic performances. As the Australian international cultural messenger, the West Australian Ballet will show the artistic charm of ballet to Chinese audience by presenting La boheme, which is a grand event in Sino-Australian cultural communication. It will definitely bring new splendor to the bridge for friendship between Chinese and Australian people.
As the Chinese sponsor for WAB’s touring performances to China, Sinosteel supported all of their performances in Beijing, Nanjing, Hangzhou and Shanghai. On the afternoon of Oct. 14, just after WAB’s arrival in Beijing, Mr. Huang Tianwen met WAB executive director Ms. Louise Howden-Smith and her colleagues. They held pleasant talks. That evening, on the function for WAB’s Chinese touring performances in the Australian Embassy to China, Ms. Louise Howden-Smith awarded President Huang Tianwen a medal in commemoration so as to thank him for his special contribution to Sino-Australian economic and cultural exchange. In Mr. Huang’s speech, he said: Wherever Sinosteel operates, the philosophy of cooperation, friendship, win-win and development is the first priority.
