President Huang Tianwen Attending the Economic Leaders’ Meeting of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC)

On September 6 to 7, 2007, invited by Australian Prime Minister John Howard, President Huang Tianwen attended the Economic Leaders’ Meeting of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC). The theme of the business summit is "strengthening our community, building a sustainable future," an important forum of the APEC meetings, will focus on trade, market and structural issues, energy, clean development and climate change as well as education.

On the afternoon of September 6, The Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Business Summit, the region's biggest annual event of the business community, opened in Australia's largest city of Sydney. Chinese President Hu Jintao on Thursday delivered a speech at the opening ceremony of the business summit of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum, expounding China's views on building a sustainable future. In his speech entitled "Advancing Comprehensive Cooperation in Pursuit of Sustainable Development," President Hu Jintao said the Chinese government attaches great importance to sustainable development and will follow the path of a new type of industrialization. China will quicken the pace of developing a circular economy and building a resource-efficient and environment-friendly society, he told the gathering of APEC business leaders. China will ensure that production and consumption meet the requirement of sustainable development and is working to promote the sustainability of the eco-system and socio-economic system to advance comprehensive economic and social progress and all-round development of the people, he said. In the speech by Australian Prime Minister John Howard, his welcomed President Hu Jintao to the opening ceremony and expressed gratitude for his speech. Prime Minister John Howard also expressed the development of China is the most important in the past century.

On the afternoon of September 7, The Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Business Summit closed in Australia's largest city of Sydney.

Founded in 1989, APEC is the premier forum for facilitating economic growth, cooperation, trade and investment in the Asia-Pacific region. APEC represents the most economically dynamic region in the world, with its 21 member economies spanning four continents and accounting for approximately 40 percent of the world's population, 56 percent of world GDP and 48 percent of world trade.  The 21 member economies are Australia, Brunei, Canada, Chile, China, China's Hong Kong, Chinese Taipei, Indonesia, Japan, Republic of Korea, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Peru, the Philippines, Russia, Singapore, Thailand, the United States and Vietnam.
