
On June 26, 2007, the two halves of the Hangzhou Bay Bridge, the world's longest cross-sea span, are to be linked today after more than three years of construction. With Sinosteel successfully invested in Hangzhou Gulf Bridge Project, Sinosteel President Huang Tianwen attended the ceremony.
On the ceremony, after Mr. Zhao Hongzhu, Secretary of Zhejiang Province announced Hangzhou Bay Bridge’s ends set to link up. Mr. Li Shenglin, Minister of Communications read a congratulatory letter by Chinese Vice Premier Zeng Peiyan.
At start of the ceremony, under the dictate by leaders of Zhejiang Province and Governors, the last steel box girder fixed by welding, the north channel bridge, the main channel bridge of Hangzhou Bay Bridge, was ends set to link up.
Hangzhou Bay Bridge northerly originates from Zheng Haiyan, a town in Jiaxing city, across Hangzhou Bay and reaches the sea bay in Cixi at south, with a full length of 36 km, two-way six-lane roads and design speed at 100 km, design service life above 100 years, exceeding the Chesapeake Bay Bridge in United States and Bahrain Road bridge embankment in Saudi Arabia, and has become the world's longest trans-oceanic bridge.
As Hangzhou Bay Bridge is in a strong corrosion marine environment, to ensure the life of the bridge, the bridge designers for the first time clearly stated its durability requirement of more than 100 years’ design life and its corresponding engineering and technical measures.
After the completion of this project, it will strengthen on local economic development and industrial structure revamp upgrade and the economic development in Yangtze River Delta.
