On December 23, the Nuclear Graphite and Carbon Materials Test and Application Branch of the Chinese Nuclear Society (“NGCMTAB-CNS” for short) was formally founded in Changxing, Zhejiang. The founding of the branch took another solid step towards technological innovation self-reliance in the fields of nuclear graphite and carbon material testing. Wang Shoujun, member of the Standing Committee of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference and President of the Chinese Nuclear Society, and Xu Siwei, Chairman and Secretary of the Party Committee of Sinosteel, attended the ceremony. Wang Wenjun, Deputy General Manager of Sinosteel, was elected as the first President of NGCMTAB-CNS. More than 100 representatives from different enterprises and academic institutions in the field of nuclear graphite and carbon material testing and application all over the country attended the inaugural ceremony.
In 2008, Sinosteel founded Sinosteel New Material (Zhejiang) Co., Ltd. for R&D and production of nuclear graphite in Changxing County, Zhejiang Province. Over more than a decade, the company has successfully achieve the domestication of nuclear graphite under the guidance and help of professional experts from the Chinese Academy of Engineering, the Chinese Academy of Sciences, China National Nuclear Corporation, and Tsinghua University, and its products have passed the test of international authoritative institutions smoothly. In addition to the development and production of nuclear graphite and carbon material, the company has also accumulated rich experience in material testing and application. Now, the founding of the NGCMTAB-CNS under its initiative with 29 domestic companies and academic institutions will further increase the independent controllability of this industrial chain in China.
Xu Siwei congratulated the establishment of the NGCMTAB-CNS on behalf of Sinosteel. He said that Sinosteel New Material (Zhejiang) Co., Ltd. has made a number of achievements in process technology, performance testing, promotion and application after more than a decade of hard work and is now basically able to control nuclear graphite and other key materials independently. The establishment of the NGCMTAB-CNS will strongly promote the development of nuclear graphite and carbon material disciplines and provide a strong guarantee for the realization of self-reliance in the new-generation nuclear power technology. He indicated that Sinosteel will, as always, support the reform and development of Sinosteel New Material (Zhejiang) Co., Ltd., and hoped that the NGCMTAB-CNS will make greater contributions to the development of the new-generation nuclear power in China under the leadership of the Chinese Nuclear Society.
Wang Wenjun, President of the NGCMTAB-CNS, said that the branch will build an academic exchange platform on nuclear graphite and carbon material, forge strength and make up for the shortcoming and gap in new-generation nuclear power technologies such as high-temperature gas cooled reactor and fast reactor, promote upstream-downstream integration and innovation in the industrial chain, boost industry-university-research joint efforts, form a three-in-one collaborative innovation system of scientific and technological research and development, standard formulation and industrial development, clear the “last mile” in the transformation of innovative and technological achievements, and contribute to the independent controllability of the nuclear power industry chain in China!
