Western Australia Premier Mark McGowan and His Delegation Visit Sinosteel Group

On April 19, Sinosteel Group's Chairman Liu Andong and General Manager Liu Guowang meet with Western Australia Premier Mark McGowan and his delegation at the company's headquarters.

Liu Andong welcomed McGowan's visit and expressed gratitude for the long-standing support from the Western Australian government to Sinosteel's operations. He stated that with Western Australia's abundant mineral resources and broad development prospects, Sinosteel hopes to accelerate the construction of its investment projects under the coordination and support of the Australian federal and Western Australian governments. In 2022, Sinosteel signed a cooperation MOU with FMG for the Mid-west project. Currently, as Sinosteel undergoes a strategic restructuring with Baowu, it is accelerating its integration into a high-quality industrial ecosystem, which will provide stronger support for cooperation with Western Australia. Liu believed the Premier's visit will boost relevant cooperation, and Sinosteel is willing to create a new model for China-Australia economic and trade cooperation based on the exemplary project of the Channar Iron Ore Mine.

McGowan thanked Sinostel for the warm reception. He said iron ore is a strategic trade between China and Australia, and the Channar iron ore project invested in Western Australia by Sinosteel and Rio Tinto is a milestone in bilateral economic and trade cooperation. As Sinosteel still has many investment projects in central Western Australia, he hopes to have more dialogues with the company to facilitate solving problems encountered during project development. Although China-Australia relations experienced some turbulence in recent years, as the Premier of Western Australia, he wishes to cooperate with his federal counterparts to push China-Australia relations towards a better new future.

After the meeting, representatives of Chinese enterprises investing in Western Australia and Premier McGowan's delegation attended the 5th Western Australia-China Strategic Dialogue.

Those attending included Lu Juan, Western Australian Government's Chief Representative in China, James Clarke, President of the Australia China Business Council Western Australia Branch, Pan Lili, Executive Vice President, Adam Handley, Chair of the Resources Committee. From Sinosteel's side were Vice General Manager Liu Peng, Chairman of Sinosteel Overseas Pan Wenliang, Sun Xiaoxuan, President of the China Chamber of Commerce in Australia Perth Branch and Sinosteel's General Manager for Australia.
